Almost Nice: Cake, Anyone?
I thought I'd give the blue skies a rest today and show you something closer to my home and to my heart.
There's something very special about French patisserie, I think, and one of the joys of living here is buying a gateau on Sunday morning resplendent in its white box and tied up with ribbon...one of life's pleasures.
This is a sample of the weekend cakes at my local Boulangerie/Patisserie. I can highly recommend the three chocolate cake above. Which one would you choose?

Ahhh yes. This window could be mistaken for Maison Blanc by Richmond Station. I featured it in Cafes of Richmond #1 on Feb 14, but not the window. Too many quirky reflections. Well done. Delicious.
Now, see what've done...there are tongue marks on my screen ;-)
How can I choose? Maybe I'll go for the plateau in the back - it seems to have a nice selection.
Anyway, thanks for that sugar rush...
That's the thing about French pâtisseries: they all sell cakes that wouldn't be out of place in Harrods or any Maison Blanc in London. It's taken for granted.
I miss them. :-(
oh how I detest choices....one of each please!
You've described the perfect weekend morning- :)
MMMMMMMMMMMM.....which one to pick???? They all look good!
yes please..... would like to have the one with strawberries and cream thanks!!
My mouth is watering now! I love the fruit tarts especially the apricot. They are the perfect size too.
I can't get it!!! Please tell me where I go in Nice to get one of these...! I'm a Nice's frequently turist and I want to buy the three chocolate cakes !!
I don't read French, so I'm not sure what it is, but it looks like a custard. That would definitely be my choice. Wonderful delicacies. :)
Simo: I'm so sorry but you'd have to drive about 30 minutes to buy this selection but as Bela says this is a fairly standard selection in any good patisserie in France though most only bring out the best at weekends.

Hummmm. Angela tu sais attire le chaland sur ton blog.....cela donne envie...
Simo, when I lived in Nice, my favourite pâtisserie was the one under the arcades, on Place Masséna, next to the newsagents (on the right-hand side when you’ve got Avenue Jean Médecin behind you); I’m afraid I can’t remember the name of the shop; don't know if it's still there either). There’s also Cappa, on Place Garibaldi (it’s very famous and deservedly so). In another area, Avenue Borriglione also boasts some delicious pâtisseries.
Felicia, I agree with you: they're the perfect size. Bigger is not always better.
Bela: I think you need to come back for a fix! Next time I'm in Place Massena I'll look for the name though everything's in a real mess with the tramway site.

Oh myyyy, chocolate chocolate chocolate of course...
Ohhhh!!! They look sooo yummy!! The chocolate cake with macarons on the side looks delicious!
I do indeed, Angela. Maybe this year...
Suddenly thought I could use pagejaunes.fr to locate that pâtisserie Place Masséna: it's called Vogade. :-)
I'm aware of the mess: friends of mine are keeping me informed of the progress (or lack of) of the tramway installation. When, oh when?
oh wow these all look amazing. but the chocolate ripple cake looks to die for....!
