Almost Nice: Gourdon

The mountainous nature of this area was a great surprise to me when I first moved here. I guess like a lot of people I'd thought no further than the beaches or the casino in Monte Carlo but the scenery is very dramatic characterised by villages perched on hill tops for defence against pirates who swept in from the coast.
This one is called Gourdon the Saracen. I took the photo from a viewing place lower and opposite the village. I would have liked a clearer photo but the zoom had done its best. This is the last parking place before the road sweeps into a hairpin bend then climbs up to the village.

I love the look of the Mediterranean!

And...Nice is so nice! Haha. Ok, not so clever.

So that's the entire village? Just a few homes perched on a hill? They must have a nice view, but I need something more cosmopolitan, you know ;-)

This is a village I want to visit. Have read about it and so good to see your excellent photo. I can smell the pure air up there!

Gourdon is beautiful. I love the rugged desolation of these mountains with low-growing vegetation - this reminds me of the look of some of the mountainous areas of New Mexico.
