One Sunny Saturday: A Beady Eye

One of the nicest things about the chateau, apart from the views, is that there's plenty of variety: monuments and antiquities to look at, a children's playground, trees to lie under, an attractive waterfall and cafes selling ice cream and cold drinks (but 3 euros an ice..come on guys that's ridiculous!).
I spotted this herring gull taking advantage of the waterfall to have a nice cool drink. Funny but somehow I've never thought of of gulls drinking...

One Sunny Saturday: Wedding Photos

A wedding is a wedding...right? Well, no, actually. There are all kinds of differences between the way a wedding is celebrated in the UK and France alone and we're both European countries.

The first French wedding I was invited to I remember being amazed at the hours of painstaking attention to detail that went into the photos alone. First the formal photos of family and guests were taken outside the beautiful church then we spent 2 hours in a local park while the bride and groom were photographed in a series of romantic settings. The photos were works of art and a pleasure to look at. I do wonder who took custody of them after the divorce though...

Anyway I stumbled across this lovely couple having theirs taken in the park at the chateau. I love the back of her dress and those little flowers in her hair so very, very romantic....I wish them happiness in their future together..

One Sunny Saturday: The Other View

Back to the park: my sister claimed she'd never been up here but the minute she saw this view she remembered. It's hard to forget. Jilly asked if there were a lift. Absolutely yes. Thank goodness. In fact this is one time when you really shouldn't be brave and fit and toil up the stairs because when you walk out of the lift there is a very narrow parapet and this is what you see; the Promenade des Anglais and the Baie des Anges at your feet. The airport is on the tip of land almost immediately opposite and when you come into land there's always that slightly unnerving sensation of touching down on water.

(When flying into Nice always ask for a seat on the left side of the plane when looking up the plane towards the cockpit. You can see the whole coast)

What To Do on the Promenade Des Anglais

The Promenade Des Anglais looking east towards the Chateau Hill. There's always lots of activity: runners, roller bladers, walkers and look-seers...and as the weather remains warm, even people on the beach.
