Art in the Park.

Along with the animals, birds and plants Parc Phoenix is home to a display of sculpture and there are works of art dotted amongst the greenery many, unfortunately, without name tags. Some of you have already noticed the sculpture in the middle of the fountains that I posted here and, no, I don't know what it is either, but here's another one which I actually prefer. It's far more graceful and makes a pleasing frame for the water..

Street Market

I've arrived back with a wonderful souvenir of my UK trip: a streaming head cold. I can't see, can't think, certainly can't taste anything but when I reviewed my photos this made me smile mainly because the paintings are so colourful but also because the one to the far right that you can't see (because I didn't take it) was really quite explicit albeit in a cartoonish style.

Street markets are very popular and most sectors of the towns and the villages have at least one a week. This seemed to be a mostly second hand book, paintings and photo market. Interesting to browse though it's too hot really to linger for long.

Art on Display

I liked the positioning of these under the olive tree; it all seemed very provencal. On the whole, though, abstract artwork isn't to my taste. I much prefer something, a portrait or scene, I can recognise and identify with.

Art on the Cote d'Azur

As is well known this region has always attracted artists: Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Renoir spring to mind, and there are galleries, along with real estate agencies, everywhere. I don't suppose you'd buy these as an investment but they'd make a pretty souvenir of your French holiday...

Art at the Airport

We're back at the airport, my second home. I stumbled across this colourful installation and simply couldn't work out what it was except that it provided a perching place for a crowd of Germans to eat their lunch (and they wouldn't move while I took the photo...).

I stopped a passing member of staff to find out. She shrugged her shoulders and said she had no idea; something to do with carnival perhaps.

Then I asked the lady seated at the back who said more or less the same thing. In the end I went to the Information desk and they said: "No idea, something to do with Carnival maybe"

It's certainly colourful like Carnival but other than that....I have no idea.
