Opera de Nice
A Theatre/Opera has existed on this site since 1776: the first in wood replaced by a glorious building in the Italian style 1n 1826 which burnt down when the great curtain caught fire. The building here was built in 1882 and was declared an historic monument in 1993. So much for the history..
The facade is gorgeous with those lovely pink columns not to mention the windows and lamps. My only issue is that it's located in a dark, narrow street surrounded by souvenir selling shops. In many other cities this building would have pride of place with the Opera opening onto a grande place.
It's own site is here if you'd like to see more photos.

yeah, it's pity, because it really worths a opened square or something like that! But it's an elegant building indeed
Souvenir shops! Have you been inside?
Love those pink columns and the elaborate ironworks!
I love this building. I like opera too, and I love the idea that this is the opera building. Nothing would be fitting better in it.
I think Nice has so many competing buildings that sometimes a gem like this may get overlooked. It is an amazing building indeed.
Do they still have opera performances in the building?
il est tres beau cet opera. merci pour l'histoire de l'opera
Poor city planning!
Not everyone had the courage Haussmann had in Paris to ditch full blocks of house to make room for new large avenues...
But what a lovely building!!!
