Summer's Bounty

Last year I bought tomato plants, called St Pierre, from the local garden centre. They grew beautifully with very little effort on my part and when picked tasted of....nothing very much but, hey, they looked nicely regular and fitted neatly into sandwiches. They say you can't have everything...
This year I decided to target quality of taste over quantity and I planted 24 heirloom tomato plants that were very generously given to me by a tomato enthusiast Christine who runs a gite business in the mountains. Go have a look at her website, the views are stunning.
And here's the result: aren't they glorious? And they taste amazing so much better than anything you could buy in the shops. And they have such poetic names: Purple Cherokee, Halliday's Mortgage Lifter, Rose de Berne and Hillbilly.
So tomato and mozzarella salad for lunch, then?

Lovely. we have heirloom tomatoes here in Alabama too. OUrs are sometimes not so pretty but oh so delicious. I will be posting a photo soon of some at a market.

Thi is so nicely composed, like the tomatoes are falling out of the sun.
I'm getting some nice heirlooms at our famers market too. I just slice them thick and serve them as a side dish all by themselves.

Those tomatoes look glorious! Maybe some goat cheese too. Oh, we use Chevere oat cheese, from Wisconsin I believe.

"Louis" is trying to figure out how you could e-mail some of that tomato and mozzarella salad to him...

(Editor to "Louis:" It isn't polite to beg for food at another blog!

"Louis" to Editor: I wasn't begging. Dogs beg. I don't. I was trying to think of a means of delivery...)

p.s. to Angela - "Louis" notices you have Lubbock Daily Photo in the sidebar. Lubbock is "Louis's" home town. That blog shut down a few months back.

Nothing is nicer than homegrown tomatoes.
I used to take the trailer down to the horse racing stables and return with a load of horse manure.
The tomatoes were wonderful. And the rest of the garden, too.
Fresh sandwiches with fresh garden produce, - délicieux ! !

Love to taste these. They look a bit like unripe tomatoes but I know they are not.

Our neighbor across the street grows heirloom tomatoes and gifts us with lots of them all the time. We love our tomatoes! These look so tasty!
