Theme Day: Biot Glass

One of the must-sees on the tourist itinerary is the glass works at Biot, a village just in from the coast between Antibes and Villeneuve Loubet, where you can watch glassblowers actually creating some of the glassware on sale in the shop. It's an interesting experience though it's hard to imagine how they can stand the heat in the Summer; there's no point in air conditioning when your mouth is pressed inches away from molten glass and there are furnaces blazing away in the background.
I took the photo in the cool air of the gallery where various glass sculptures and other items are for sale.

These are the City Daily photo sites participating in this month's theme day.

That's a gorgeous piece. Just added another place to the to do list. Really need to be living there. It's all too much.

Just gorgeous Angela. I had no idea the Biot glass was such a blue. I've got a lamp made of Biot glass and it's a sort of ochre colour and for some odd reason I assumed that's what all Biot glass was. I'm learning. Love the photo too.

The glassware comes in all different colours, Jilly, though this paperweight wasn't in the shop but was in the exhibition centre. It was for sale but hadn't been made on the premises.

I knew glasses from Biot but these pieces are more impressive! I love to watch these artists at work...
Have a good Sunday, Angela.

It reminds me of Murano.

Looking at master craftsmen blowing glass work is always stunning and interesting.

Beautiful! I would love to watch them at work. I can't even begin to imagine how they control the different colors and transparencies. Fascinating theme day post!

Elegant looking glass.

Biot is on our list of "must see" glassmakers. Our friend has the controlled bubble drinking glasses and, even when drinking water, it seems like you are celebrating with champagne!

This is our first time participating in theme day and it is so much fun!

This is a beautiful piece -- the colors are exquisite. We watched glassblowers at work in Jamestown, Virginia. It was summer and it was HOT!

Your photo does indeed look like a French interpretation of glass. So elegant.

Glass blowing is fascinating, not only because of the technique, but also because of the final product. Good choice!!
